Repeat Process As Necessary

To me, the coolest things in sports happen behind the scenes. This week’s Psyche vid is Steve Lapen on the first American ascent of Ghetto Booty (5.14c/d) at Mt Charleston. What makes the vid special isn’t the climbing, but the story of Lapen’s dedication. He’s not a professional climber, but a dad with a full-time job, projecting a route more than 6 hours from his home. Not many people have the motivation to start their training after most of the world’s gone to bed, at least to the level required  to make a world-class ascent. When I’m tired at the end of a long day, it’s visions like this one that keep me off the couch and in the garage (my gym), where life is truly better.
